JFI Boom Lifts
There are many
potential problems with buying a boom lift from a dealer who is not
certified.
Boom lifts, as with other types of
heavy machinery such as scissor lifts and aerial lifts, can be purchased
in a variety of ways. Some options for purchasing a boom lift include:
buying directly through the product manufacturer, purchasing a new lift
through a certified dealer, or purchasing a reconditioned machine
through a dealer (often one who is not certified). If you choose to
purchase a new machine through a certified dealer you can often also get
training for the machine operators from the dealer.
There are many potential problems with buying a boom lift from a dealer
who is not certified. One of the major issues is that uncertified
dealers are often not fully familiar with the lifts and trained on their
use. They can not, therefore, fully ascertain whether the machine meets
all of the manufacturer’s safety standards.
Heavy equipment is a very expensive, and sometimes dangerous,
investment. There are stringent inspection and maintenance standards for
boom and scissor lifts that are strictly enforced by OSHA. This is
necessary to help protect the health and safety of the machine
operators, one of whom dies each day as the result of safety gaps and
accidents.
There should be a thorough safety check completed on all boom lifts that
are offered for sale. This inspection should include examinations of
balance, gears, joints, and several other critical standards. This type
of inspection can determine that a machine is capable of handling all
the demands that could be placed on it, especially its ability to
maintain pertinent safely standards. You should definitely consult an
expert when purchasing a boom lift. A professional dealer will have
certifications from both OSHA and the product manufacturer, and is the
only one capable of adequately examining and explaining all the safety
requirements of the lift.
