You can purchase used lift equipment (aerial, scissor, or boom) from a variety of different sources. The first step for many buyers is to contact the product manufacturer directly. This way if you were in the market for a used lift, a JLG Telehandler for example, the manufacturer could give you the contact information for authorized dealers who have it is stock. Sometimes, the manufacturer will sell reconditioned equipment directly to the consumer, without using the services of a dealer.

Both JLG and Genie have regional distributions centers which are a good option if you do not live too far from them. Most people will live much closer to a dealer than a product manufacturing plant or distribution center. Another alternative for finding quality used lifts is to go online and search the inventories of dealers that are within a reasonable distance. Always be sure to call the dealer prior to showing up to purchase a specific machine you saw online as many dealers are slow to update their online catalog.

The biggest advantage to buying a used machine is the money you can save. The costs associated with purchasing a new boom lift can be several hundred thousand dollars. Buying used can save you up to fifty thousand dollars, or even more.

Many dealers are willing to stand behind their used or reconditioned machines with warranties similar to what you would receive with a new machine. This means you can receive the same quality service and support on a used machine as you would on a new one. Additionally, some companies (JLG for example) are now reconditioning their own lifts to assist them in maintaining strong customer loyalty.
